Blackback Land Crab
Hartnollius lateralis

Adult blackback land crabs inhabit coastal forests, scrub, and sandy ground across parts of the Caribbean and nearby mainland coasts. Mostly active at night, they forage for plant matter, fruit, carrion, and small animals, and shelter in deep burrows during dry conditions. Adults make seasonal movements toward the sea so females can release their larvae into salt water.
