Common Morpho
Morpho helenor

Adult Common Morphos fly through tropical forest clearings, edges, and the lower canopy in Central and South America. They feed chiefly on fermenting fruit, tree sap, and other nutrient-rich liquids rather than flower nectar. Males patrol sunlit spaces and rapidly chase rivals or potential mates. The brilliant blue upper surface of the wings is produced by microscopic structures that reflect light, not by blue pigment.
