Oriental Darter
Anhinga melanogaster
The Oriental darter lives around freshwater wetlands, rivers, reservoirs, and wooded lakes across South and Southeast Asia. It swims with most of its body submerged, hunting fish by thrusting its long, sharp bill underwater. After fishing, it often perches with its wings spread to dry. Its unusually water-soaked feathers give it a low profile in the water and help it pursue prey beneath the surface.
