Grayling
Hipparchia semele

Adult graylings inhabit dry grassland, heathland, dunes, and rocky open places with bare patches for basking. They fly swiftly in warm sunshine and visit flowers for nectar, while males patrol and defend sunny territories. When settled with closed wings, the mottled underside provides remarkably effective camouflage against bark, stones, and soil.
