Mottled Grasshopper
Myrmeleotettix maculatus
Adults inhabit dry, sunny grasslands, heathland, dunes, and other open ground with short vegetation. They graze on grasses and herbs, escaping disturbance with quick leaps and brief flights. Their mottled brown and grey coloration provides excellent camouflage on bare soil and stones. Males make a rasping song by rubbing their hind legs against their wings.
