Dune Scorpion
Smeringurus mesaensis

The dune scorpion lives on loose, sandy desert flats and among sparse scrub in the southwestern United States. It spends much of the day sheltered in a shallow burrow or beneath debris, emerging at night to hunt insects and other small arthropods. It grasps prey with its pincers and uses its venomous stinger when needed. Its pale coloration helps it blend into desert sand.
