Humpbacked Orbweaver
Eustala anastera
The humpbacked orbweaver lives in woodland edges, gardens, and shrubby habitats across much of eastern North America. It builds a vertical orb web, usually resting near the hub or in a nearby retreat while waiting for small flying insects to become entangled. Vibrations in the silk alert it to prey, which it rapidly wraps and bites. Its distinctly raised, hump-like abdomen helps distinguish it from many other orbweavers.
