Stripedlegged Hermit Crab
Clibanarius vittatus

Stripedlegged hermit crabs inhabit intertidal flats, marsh edges, and shallow coastal waters along the western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. They scavenge carrion, graze algae, and pick through detritus with their claws. Its striped walking legs and borrowed snail shell provide both camouflage and protection, though it must move into larger shells as it grows.
