Australian Emperor
Anax papuensis
The adult Australian Emperor patrols freshwater wetlands, lakes, and rivers, often flying over open water and nearby vegetation. It catches flying insects such as mosquitoes, flies, and smaller dragonflies in mid-air. Males vigorously defend breeding territories around water. Its huge eyes provide near-all-round vision while hunting on the wing.
