Tawny Frogmouth
Podargus strigoides
Tawny Frogmouths inhabit open forests, woodlands, and gardens across much of Australia. Nocturnal hunters, they perch quietly before dropping onto insects, small mammals, reptiles, and other small prey. Their mottled plumage and rigid upright posture make them remarkably similar to a broken tree branch.
