Type shrimp
Caridina typus
Adults inhabit clear freshwater streams, especially among rocks, leaf litter, and submerged vegetation. They spend much of their time grazing algae and scavenging decaying organic material from surfaces. When startled, the shrimp snaps its tail beneath its body to dart rapidly backward.
