Woolly Apple Aphid
Eriosoma lanigerum

These aphids form dense colonies on apple trees and sometimes on their roots, where they feed continuously on sugary phloem sap. Most adults at this stage are wingless and move only short distances over bark and foliage. Their conspicuous woolly covering is made of wax filaments, which can hinder small predators and parasites.
