Speedy Desert Ant
Cataglyphis velox
Speedy desert ants inhabit hot, open desert ground, where they forage during periods that deter many other insects. They hunt small arthropods, scavenge remains, and collect sugary food when available. An individual races over scorching sand using keen vision and the sun to navigate back to its nest. Its long legs and exceptional heat tolerance make it a remarkably quick desert forager.
