Crane Fly
Atypophthalmus umbratus
Adult crane flies occur around damp woodland, stream margins, and lush vegetation, where they fly weakly among grasses and shrubs. Adults commonly take nectar or water, while some species feed very little during their short adult lives. Despite their mosquito-like appearance and extremely long legs, crane flies do not bite people.
