Cross-cut Carpet Shell
Lajonkairia lajonkairii

Adults inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms in coastal waters, often remaining buried with only their siphons near the surface. They filter plankton and suspended organic material from passing water. The thick, cross-marked shell can be tightly closed to deter many predators.
