Red-bellied Black Snake
Pseudechis porphyriacus
Adults inhabit wetlands, creeks, swamps, and damp forests across eastern Australia. They actively hunt frogs, fish, lizards, and small mammals, often foraging near water by day. The glossy black back and vivid red belly form a conspicuous warning display, and this venomous snake is notably resistant to the venom of many Australian elapids.
