Red and Black Bug
Melanocoryphus albomaculatus
The adult red and black bug inhabits sunny grasslands, field margins, and other dry, flower-rich places. It uses its piercing mouthparts to feed chiefly on seeds and plant juices. Fully developed wings allow it to disperse between food plants, while its contrasting red-and-black coloration advertises its unpleasant chemical defenses.
