Sydney octopus
Octopus tetricus

The Sydney octopus inhabits rocky reefs, tide pools, and sheltered coastal waters around southeastern Australia. It hunts crustaceans, molluscs, and small fish, often pouncing from cover and pulling prey apart with its strong arms and beak. During the day it commonly shelters in a den, sometimes arranging shells or stones around the entrance. Its skin can rapidly change colour and texture to blend with nearby rock, sand, or seaweed.
