Flame Skimmer
Libellula saturata
Adults patrol sunny ponds, marshes, and other still or slow-moving waters across western North America. They catch mosquitoes, flies, and other small insects while airborne, using their bristled legs as a basket to hold prey. Mature males are especially conspicuous for their vivid red-orange bodies and territorial flights.
