Carolina Grasshopper
Dissosteira carolina
Adults inhabit prairies, roadsides, fields, and sandy open ground with scattered vegetation. They graze on grasses and broad-leaved plants, often remaining still until closely approached. When startled, they burst into flight and may expose their dark hindwings in a sudden warning display before settling back into camouflage.
