Greater Blue Skimmer
Orthetrum melania
The adult Greater Blue Skimmer patrols sunny ponds, wetlands, and nearby open clearings on swift, direct flights. It catches small flying insects in mid-air, often returning to a perch between hunting sorties. Mature males develop a bluish, powdery coating and may vigorously defend a favored waterside territory.
