Beckford's Pencilfish
Nannostomus beckfordi
Beckford's Pencilfish inhabits slow rivers, flooded forest pools, and densely planted streams in the Amazon and Guiana regions. It picks at small crustaceans, insect larvae, and other tiny invertebrates in the water column. The fish is known for its dark horizontal stripe and its distinctive angled resting posture, often holding its head higher than its tail.
