Giant Swallowtail Caterpillar
Papilio cresphontes (caterpillar)
Giant swallowtail caterpillars live on citrus trees and other plants in the rue family, often feeding openly on tender leaves. They chew steadily and rest along stems or leaf midribs between feeding bouts. When disturbed, they rear up and extend a forked organ that releases a pungent chemical odor to deter predators.
