European Eel Yellow Eel
Anguilla anguilla (yellow eel)
The yellow eel is the main growing stage, living for years in rivers, lakes, marshes, and coastal lagoons. It is mostly nocturnal, hiding under stones, roots, or mud by day and hunting at night. Its diet includes insect larvae, worms, crustaceans, small fish, and carrion. This stage can travel across damp ground for short distances, allowing it to move between connected waters.
