Tropical Fire Ant
Solenopsis geminata

Tropical fire ants inhabit warm open ground, lawns, fields, and disturbed habitats, nesting in soil and under objects. Workers forage actively for insects, sugary liquids, seeds, and other small food items. When threatened, an individual grips with its mandibles and repeatedly stings with its abdomen. Its venom contains painful alkaloids that can leave pustules on the skin of larger animals.
