Common Green Sawfly
Tenthredo mesomela
Adults fly through sunny woodland margins, meadows, and hedgerows where flowers and larval food plants are abundant. They visit flowers for nectar and move quickly between vegetation in search of mates and egg-laying sites. Despite its caterpillar-like young, this insect is a sawfly, a relative of wasps rather than a butterfly or moth.
