Yellow-legged Gull Juvenile
Larus michahellis (juvenile)

Juveniles disperse along coasts, harbours, beaches, fields, and rubbish tips while learning to forage independently. Their brown mottled plumage differs strongly from the clean grey-and-white adult, giving them camouflage among rocks and seaweed. They feed opportunistically on fish, crabs, insects, carrion, eggs, and human food waste. Young birds often test food items with repeated pecks and become skilled at quick snatching as they mature.
