Red Ant Larva
Myrmica rubra (larva)

A red ant larva is a pale, legless grub kept deep inside a damp nest under soil, moss, logs, or stones. It cannot forage for itself and depends on adult workers to feed it regurgitated liquids and pieces of small invertebrates. Its soft body mostly curls, wriggles, and waits while it grows through several molts. Fine body hairs help workers carry and sort the brood within the nest chambers.
