Common Squid
Loligo vulgaris

Common squid inhabit coastal and shelf waters of the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean, often schooling in open water or near the seafloor. They hunt fish, crustaceans, and other cephalopods by darting forward with jet propulsion and seizing prey with their tentacles and beak. Rapid color changes and ink release help them evade predators. Despite their familiar name, they are active, short-lived predators rather than slow drifting animals.
