Bowmouth Guitarfish
Rhina ancylostomus

The bowmouth guitarfish lives on sandy and muddy seafloors of the tropical Indo-Pacific, often near coral reefs, bays, and estuaries. It rests on the bottom and uses its flattened body and mottled pattern to blend into the seabed before moving off to hunt. Its diet includes crabs, shrimp, molluscs, and small fishes, which it crushes with strong jaws. Despite its shark-like tail, it is a ray distinguished by a broad, wedge-shaped head and rows of protective thorny denticles.
