Sand Tiger Shark
Carcharias taurus

Sand tiger sharks inhabit temperate and subtropical coastal waters, often lingering near reefs, sandy bottoms, shipwrecks, and offshore ledges. They swim slowly but hunt fishes, rays, squid, crustaceans, and smaller sharks with long, needle-like teeth. Individuals may gulp air at the surface and retain it in the stomach, helping them hover almost motionlessly in the water column. Despite their formidable appearance, they are generally not aggressive toward people unless provoked.
