Upland Field Grasshopper
Chorthippus apricarius
The adult upland field grasshopper inhabits dry grasslands, rough pasture, heaths, and open field margins. It feeds on grasses and herbs, using strong chewing mouthparts to crop vegetation. Adults readily leap away from danger and can make short flights between cover. Males produce a rasping song by rubbing their hind legs against their wings.
