California Gull Chick
Larus californicus (chick)

California Gull chicks hatch in colonies near inland lakes, marshes, and islands. They stay close to the nest, crouching among vegetation or rocks when danger approaches. Parents bring them insects, small fish, and other food items until they can forage more independently. Their mottled brown-and-gray down helps them blend into the ground around the nesting site.
