Banded Hairstreak
Satyrium calanus
Adult Banded Hairstreaks inhabit sunny openings, woodland edges, and clearings within deciduous forests. They take nectar from flowers and may also feed on tree sap or honeydew. The gray underside of the wings bears pale bands and small tails that can draw an attack away from the butterfly's head.
