Oblong Turtle
Chelodina oblonga

The Oblong Turtle inhabits freshwater swamps, rivers, dams, and seasonal wetlands in southwestern Australia. It is an ambush hunter that waits among weeds before extending its unusually long neck to grab fish, tadpoles, crustaceans, and insects. Adults are mostly aquatic but may travel overland when wetlands dry or conditions change. A notable adaptation is its ability to take up oxygen underwater through specialized tissues near the cloaca.
