Colombian lesserblack tarantula
Xenesthis immanis

This large terrestrial tarantula inhabits humid lowland rainforests of Colombia and Venezuela, sheltering in burrows, crevices, and other concealed retreats. Mostly active at night, it waits near cover before lunging at insects and other small animals. It subdues prey with its fangs and venom, then feeds by liquefying tissues. When threatened, it may rub irritating urticating hairs from its abdomen toward an attacker.
