Meadow Viper
Vipera ursinii
The meadow viper inhabits dry grasslands, steppes, and flower-rich meadows, usually hiding under vegetation or stones. It ambushes grasshoppers, crickets, and other small prey with a rapid venomous bite. This small, stocky snake is well camouflaged by its zigzag back pattern and is among Europe's smallest vipers.
