Rubber Boa
Charina bottae
Rubber boas inhabit cool forests, mountain slopes, grasslands, and streamside cover across western North America. Usually active at dusk or in mild weather, they hide under rocks, logs, and underground cover before ambushing small mammals, lizards, and eggs. This gentle constrictor has loose, rubbery-looking skin and often uses its blunt tail as a decoy when threatened.
