Punctate Corixa
Corixa punctata
The punctate corixa is a small water boatman of ponds, lakes, and quiet stretches of freshwater. It swims rapidly by rowing with its hair-fringed hind legs, feeding mainly on algae, detritus, and tiny organic particles. Adults can leave the water and fly to new habitats when conditions change. Its body traps a thin layer of air, helping it remain submerged while breathing.
