Red-banded Hairstreak
Calycopis cecrops

The adult red-banded hairstreak inhabits woodland edges, clearings, and shrubby areas across eastern North America. It visits flowers for nectar and may also take moisture or nutrients from other natural sources. When perched, its hindwing tails and markings create a false head that can distract predators.
