White-headed Woodpecker
Leuconotopicus albolarvatus

White-headed Woodpeckers inhabit open pine forests, especially ponderosa pine stands, across parts of the western United States. They climb trunks and branches while searching bark and cones for insects and pine seeds. Unlike many woodpeckers, they often forage among pine cones and are recognizable by their striking white head.
