Churchyard Beetle
Blaps mucronata

Churchyard beetles inhabit dry ground, ruins, gardens, and other sheltered terrestrial habitats, usually emerging after dark. Adults eat decaying vegetation, plant matter, and other organic material found on the ground. When threatened, they can release a pungent defensive secretion and may feign death.
