Mexican Redrump Tarantula
Tliltocatl vagans

This terrestrial tarantula lives in seasonally dry forests and scrublands of southern Mexico and parts of Central America, sheltering in silk-lined burrows, crevices, or beneath logs. Mostly active at night, it waits near its retreat before lunging at insects and other small prey. It subdues prey with its fangs and venom, while its dense abdominal hairs can be kicked off as an irritating defense. Adults are recognized by the reddish hairs covering the rear of the abdomen.
