White-backed Vulture
Gyps africanus

The White-backed Vulture soars over open African savannas, woodland, and semi-arid country while searching for carcasses. It feeds mainly on carrion, using its strong hooked beak to tear flesh and its bare head to feed deeply without fouling feathers. Adults often travel long distances between feeding sites and communal roosts. Despite their broad wings, these vultures are declining severely because poisoned carcasses can kill many birds.
