Cape Barren Goose
Cereopsis novaehollandiae

Cape Barren Geese inhabit open grasslands, coastal scrub, wetlands, and offshore islands in southern Australia. They graze mainly on grasses, sedges, and herbs, often feeding in open areas with a clear view of approaching threats. Adults are strong fliers despite their heavy build, and defend nests and young with loud hisses, pecks, and wing strikes.
