Spotted Eagle-Owl
Bubo africanus
The Spotted Eagle-Owl inhabits open woodland, savanna, rocky country, and even parks across much of sub-Saharan Africa. It hunts mainly at night, taking rodents, small birds, reptiles, frogs, and large insects with its talons. Its mottled plumage helps it blend into bark and rock while resting by day. Broad wings and soft feathers allow remarkably quiet flight during an ambush.
