King Vulture
Sarcoramphus papa
King Vultures inhabit lowland tropical forests, forest edges, and open clearings across Central and South America. They soar over wide areas in search of carrion, using their strong hooked beaks to tear open carcasses. Their vividly colored bare head helps keep feathers clean while feeding, and their powerful bill can give other scavengers access to tough hides.
