Lawn Armyworm Caterpillar
Spodoptera mauritia (caterpillar)
This caterpillar lives among lawns, rice, grasses, and other low-growing plants, often sheltering near the soil by day. It chews leaves and tender grass blades, becoming most active while feeding at night. When disturbed, it can curl its body and hide among plant debris; large outbreaks may strip extensive patches of vegetation.
