Southern Calamari
Sepioteuthis australis

Southern calamari inhabit coastal bays, estuaries, reefs, and seagrass beds around southern Australia and New Zealand. They swim with undulating fins and powerful jet bursts, hunting small fish, crustaceans, and other cephalopods with two long feeding tentacles. Rapid colour changes and skin patterns help them ambush prey or disappear against their surroundings. They can release a cloud of ink when threatened, creating cover for a quick escape.
