Western Carpenter Ant
Camponotus modoc

Western carpenter ants inhabit forests, nesting in damp or decaying wood without consuming it. Workers forage for insects, honeydew, nectar, and other sugary foods, using strong mandibles to handle food and defend themselves. When threatened, they can bite and direct formic acid from the tip of the abdomen toward an attacker.
